STATUS

Eastern Russia, North-east China and Alaska. Polytypic.

OVERVIEW

Yellow Wagtail was recently split (2019) into two species Eastern and Western Yellow Wagtail, both now being polytypic.

The second record occurred a century later, not far from the first in the Northern Isles. Since identification has improved more records have been forthcoming, but call is still needed to be certain.

As the 2019 Norfolk indivdual stayed to attain breeding plumage it was identified as the nominate sub-species M. t. tschutschensis.
