Brown-headed Cowbird
Molothrus ater (Boddaert, 1783) (0, 5)
STATUS
North America. Polytypic.
OVERVIEW
The first for the Western Palearctic occurred in Norway during June 1987, the Argyll record being the second record. Three individuals crossed the Atlantic in 2009 in the spring with the July individual in Pembrokeshire presumably having crossed earlier.
In North America cowbirds associate with Common Starlings but are considered short-distance migrants. However their arrival here matches the established pattern of Nearctic sparrows.
