Biography Bachelor. Joint owner with Robert Jones of a news agency with a royal warrant based in Ryder Street. National author of History of British Birds which was influenced by Thomas Bewick. It was Yarrell who discovered a bird new to science which he named in honour of his friend Bewick’s Swan. Close friend of Leonard Jenyns. Also friend of Charles Darwin, assisting him with the purchase of guns and how to prepare specimens prior to his embarkation. Admitted as a fellow of Linnean Society in November, 1825. Secretary of Zoological Society from 1836-38. Owned a considerable library and bird collection of which John Gould prepared some of his specimens.
